Hey all and welcome to your local news point for the VS System from Upper Deck Entertainment. Now I'm not sure how many people here play or have ever played VS or if there are some looking to get back into the game. All I know is that I've recently got back into playing this past few months. So as that stands I figured I'd create a topic where people could come and ask questions, discuss things about VS or possibly just to enquire about the game itself.

I will happy to answer all questions to both old players and new. First I'll just list the sets that are out there to get us started.

Marvel Origins
DC Origins
Web of Spider-Man
Man of Steel
Marvel Knights - Golden Age
Green Lantern Corp
Fantastic Four Starter Set *Special*
Avengers
Justice League of America
X-Men
Infinite Crisis
Heralds of Galactus
Legion of Superheroes
Marvel Team-Up
COMING SOON FROM DC: World's Finest
COMING SOON FROM MARVEL: Marvel Legends

Well I got for my birthday the Giant Size VS The Coming of Galactus set. Which after reading the rules looks really interesting. As well as a 60 card Heralds deck you get a Galactus avatar and planets deck. The object of the game of course is to defeat Galactus, but where this comes into it's own is the planets. Each round after the third a planet card is played which states Initiative Control, Galactus or the Alliance (all other players). As well as special rules in play for that round and certain objectives for the Alliance players to fulfil. Failure to complete the objective gets the Galactus player the planet which can then be used to trigger special destructive effects to make him even stronger.

Can't wait to try this out in play just to see how this works. Looking forward to it.

So it's a game in-and-of itself that can be played outside the standard CCG rules?

Well it more adds a special type of rules to the game for the playing of that scenario. Kind of like how the Galactus figure affected Heroclix. The same VS rules are still in place but this new set introduces goals to the other players not controlling the Galactus deck, as well as special game effects that are useable by the player using the special Galactus deck contained in this set. To either mix up play or completely change some of the dynamics around.

Consuming three captured planets for instance allows the Galactus player to remove an opponent of his choosing from the game. Which if that player is the strongest player for the Allied opponent teams will cause them to severely rethink their playing strategy. Of course doing so requires the Galactus controller to in possession of 3 planets.

This scenario was awesome, although i don't think the players should be allowed to use their own Galactus in such a game.

It does reinforce the power of team attacking and a good support row

Well I also did it wrong. You're only supposed to have 100 points between all Alliance players. As for using your own Galactus there are ways around that. Like if I still had Human Torch in play it nullifies your Galactus' ability. As that ability targets a player which the Herald Torch's effect puts a hold on.

Well I just bought a DC Legends booster display of 24 packs and I have to say that whilst some of the cards are new. A lot of them are just reprints of the cards from older sets that seem to have just been re-released so that they can be used in official tournaments again. I can kind of see why they'd do this but it is a little disappointing. Still it's not as though the set is a complete reprint like Wizkids did with Universe.

The JLA get a new reworking with their theme now changing to discarding cards and retrieving them from a players KO pile. Seems to me like they're trying to make it tie in more with their archenemy team the Injustice Gang.

Titans theme has changed once more. From the first sets exhaust characters to aid other characters you control imnprove defences and attack. To the newer cosmic style token swapping thrown out there by the Legion of Superheroes expansion. Now changing it to granting bonuses for every face down resource you control. Seems like a good change I just hope they settle on this now. I'm hopefully going to try and merge the two more recent decks and see how that goes.

VS stands for Versus. wink.gif

I still have the first starter (or two) that I bought of either Marvel Origins or Web of Spider-Man (can't remember). Unfortunately, our LCS doesn't carry 'em so I never really got anymore than that and I haven't played in ages.

Well the official site is www.ude.com, but seriously there's no decent information there. The best place would be;

VS Realms

I'm on those forums as yes you've guessed it, TheRidge. So feel free to take a look round and see if it's something you'd like to try. I believe that there is still a demo that you can play. Unfortunately living all the way over in the UK it's not as though I can show you first hand. Would that I could, if you're interested in following it just let me know. I have absolutely tons of cards from older sets that I'm looking to get rid of. I'd sooner not throw them all out. So you never know if you'd like loads of cards all you need do is ask and possibly work something out for postage.
Having said that if you're looking to pick it up there is a Fantastic Four deck with rules that is a complete set. Then Marvel Legends and DC Legends have just been released so there's plenty to choose from if you would like to pick it up. I wouldn't go crazy though like I did only to find there were no players near me. The VSRealms website does have links to player groups as well. So good luck with it and remember I'm here to help.

Nah, there's no poop or sex (or poop sex) involved. I think it's safe.
