That's why Transformers get my vote. Well, part of why. Also because they're my favourite toy.

They actually did have a line of Transformers toys built out of Lego-style block sets called Built to Rule. It wasn't that great.

Transformers get my vote. Legos may have been around longer, and may be around longer than any Transformers line; but Transformers may be the ultimate boy's toy, combining cars and trucks (and guns and cassette recorders) with giant robot aliens. Heck, there was even an episode with a giant robot ninja!

I don't know; I still think that Lego would provide me more hours of enjoyment. I can build, break, rebuild and not care if I lose a piece. Whereas with G1 if I lose a piece or break it, it's fairly expensive to repair. My heart lies with Lego.

Those look kinda neat. Not cool enough for me to track down but if I saw 'em in the store, I might pick up a set.


As for the final round, I've gotta agree with Retro here. I've never been all that big on Transformers (surprise!) but I've had and enjoyed playing with Legos all my life. That's probably not entirely true since I think my parents were a bit more responsible than to let an infant play with legos but you get the idea. I still enjoy building whatever my imagination can come up with and have a fairly decent sized collection of Legos. I'd have more too, if they weren't obscenely expensive to buy nowadays.

And I really regret not getting all the Batman Lego Sets that came out a couple years ago, back when they first came out because now that they're out of production, the prices have tripled or quadrupled. Anyway, make mine Legos!

Well, since I've been voting against Legos and for Transformers for pretty much the entirety of the battle, it's probably no surprise that I'm continuing the trend here. Though as before, I'm not knocking the greatness of Legos; they're one of the most significant toys in toy history, and they are a great toy. They're just not for me.

Transformers were the centerpiece of my action figure brawls as a kid, they were the most common subject of childhood envy for me, and they're the centerpieces of my collection now. I'm very glad that, unlike some other toys I loved as a child, they haven't faded away.

Legos were the toy of my childhood. Largely because my mom loved them too, and so if we "didn't have money for Transformers," we somehow, mysteriously, had money for Legos.

That said, I did indeed have a lot of fun with Legos. But it's not something that I've ever felt compelled to play with again, for whatever reason. I look at a lot of the sets today...a lot of licensed ones...and think that some of the creativity and imagination have been removed from the picture.

Transformers, however, have always stuck with me. They are both simple and complex. Simple in that they are (usually) one unit without need of construction, complex in that you need to figure out how to convert them from mode to mode. Pepper that with memorable and beloved characters and a classic good vs. evil story and you have a toyline that can last as long as it wants to.

I played with Legos for far longer than I played with Transformers. Also, the Legos have held up well, and are ready to be played with by my son, niece, and nephews.
