VOTE FOR THE BEST ANCIENT CIVILIZATION OF 2006!
Oogie
The Aztecs are vastly under-rated. But I can't bring myself to vote for them. Much like Boise State, while they deserve to be here, no one expects them to do a damn thing. I'm taking the ones that started it all.
Slovman
The Aztecs were totally awesome.

I always liked the Greeks. The things they could do with lamb meat were amazing.
Aaronc3477
Gotta go with the Romans...after watching that HBO series, i'll never look at Rome the same again...holy hell, it's awesome.
Chaomancer Omega
It is, of course, difficult to say which is the best of 2006. I mean, this has been a great year for all of them....
Oogie
I wasn't saying that the Aztecs weren't awesome. But let's be real here. They aren't going to steal votes from the Romans or Greeks, and the Egyptians...well, I feel bad for the Aztecs.
Reverend Redbeard
Where the hell are the Spartans.
Chaomancer Omega
The Spartans didn't get nominated this year, as they were fairly inactive. All those drug allegations really put a crimp in their activities for 2006.
Reverend Redbeard
That drug crap was just that! Crap! With 300 coming to theaters next year I'm sure they'll have a better shot.

Word brother, word.

What no Mayans? Toltecs?
JasonPotapoff
Greeks all the way. Their influence over western civilization is still felt even today (for example much of the comman depictions of Hell were derived from Greek's later concepts of Hades). For so many years they were the dominate culture over everyone else. Greek was the primary written language for so many ancient civilizations. Their culture was so predominate that when Rome came into power, instead of absorbing Greek culture (ie. myths, gods and the like) into Roman culture, the Romans took their own culture and merged it into the Greeks. Can you imagine any other ruling kingdom/country taking someone else's myths and customs and using that instead of their own?

Romans were taught Greek literature in Greek. For many years the Romans used Greek as their written language over their own Latin.
Revil Fox
Yeah, but that's all in the past. The question is, who was better in '06?
SmellslikeBFD1
rome all the way. they had crazy orgies. nuff said.

I took a very good course on Greek Mythology this year. And the Rome HBO series debeuted in 2005, not 2006.

It's still going, though. wink.gif

*Chaomancer Omega hands Jason a small pamphlet saying "By the way, this particular poll isn't very serious."
Slovman
Ooh! The pamphlets are out!

*Slovman grabs one.

Canary yellow? Why the frack are they on canary? I specifically asked for goldenrod!
Reverend Redbeard
You said goldenrod.
Oogie
Be careful, or he'll give you a golden rod where the sun don't shine.

And where is the love for the Aztecs? I told you all they'd be flying under the radar, but NOOOOOO one listens to me.
Slovman
*Slovman checks the Registrar.

And who might you be?
TwinkyMaster
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrnnnnn.
Oogie
*oogie56 sets Twinky on fire
Aaronc3477
anyone else see that comin?
KilljoyBob
Man, the Mayans should have at least had a showing, what with their big movie, Apocalypto opening at number one this past weekend. I blame Mel Gibson.

At this point in time Greek Mythology is absolutely serious. Granted that's because my final is tomorrow and I have been studying all afternoon and most of this evening.

Arrg! I hate it when spelling counts in an exam. Especially when it's greek and roman names I have to remember and spell. Never mind questions like "here's a passage from classic literature with the names ofthe characters removed. State who wrote the passage, the name of the passage and explain the signifigance of the passage. " AAAAAAAH!

Other than the exams this has been a great course.. But still the exams are brutal..
