Just thought, given the ungodly stress of my job I've endured in the past 30 min, I would start a thread where you could go, blow off some steam, listen to everyone else's horror stories and basically get things off your chest.
so, go.....rant.....

I'll go first.
I used to love working with kids, trying to help them get their lives back together...but the more I see the way children in our society are raised and the way they are numb to things that would have horrified even people MY age to think about at that age, it's becoming more and more difficult to want to keep doing what I do.
Today, I had a kid threaten to cut the head off of a staff member at a group home....after he beat a kid to a pulp.
What the hell am I supposed to do with that? Being the PO/case manager, everyone turns to me to find out what should be done with this child. I had him locked in juvenile detention to be safe and now.....now I'm clueless.
At any rate, he's 17, so i can't just spear him into and through a brick wall because of his age....but this "kid" is no more a kid than any of us. And they know it.
Add on top of that the months worth of data entry for case recordings and the 2 new cases I got yesterday I have to organize and prepare treatment for.......and thats just the immediate stuff.
Anyway...just had to vent a little bit. Feel free to do your own.

I'm in charge of any hazardous materials that break open in my place of work. In one instance we had a paticularly nasty bit of Nitric acid break open all over one of our sortation belts. In this sort of situation we're supposed to consult a guide to see what we should nutrilize it with. Me being the haphazard type of person I am, I used the only nutrilizer we have to try to stop it from hurting anyone or anything. what ahppened next was a quick chemical reaction causing a thick yellow smoke while I was still trying to nutrilize it. After getting a face full of mystery yellow smoke I began to cough like one would. My eyes, as described to me were more red than anything. After getting it to an area where it couldn't harm anyone my co-worker pointed out that I was breathing yellow smoke. This was a full eight minutes after the reaction. What came next was straight horror. Ibeagn to vomit a mixture of blood and gawd knows what else. that lasted for about a minute and a half. I finally fell over from the episode and began coughing again. I though I was going to die. After not dying and having a chance to get some fresh air and cleaned up I was called into my boss's office. I get along very well with my (former) boss but not his boss. While I was still dizzy and red from the whole ordeal my boss's boss browbeat me for my stupid behavior. telling me I should be fired. I didn't have enough juice in me to give him my two cents so I just let him continue. I got no "Thank you for making sure no one was hurt" or "Are you alright". Just I should fire you for this.

Yeah whilst my job isn't as bad as that A-Train, I know what you mean about kids today. Where they seem to be raised by their parents just letting them grow without any guidance or influence. Why where my wife works there's a park opposite with no street lighting and where teenage kids hang out. With her there by herself, they bang on the windows, kick the door and try the handle. Around bonfire night they launched fireworks at the houses and cars in the area. Oh and they run across in front of moving cars for fun!
Previously another nurse that was in there had them come in lift her skirt up and threaten to 'you know' her. When she called the police in the bosses of the company installed a fake security camera, made sure two people were there at all times, and told them to keep the door locked. The two people there at all times lasted a week.
I swerved to hit a bunch of them yesterday that were stood in the road, mainly because I was that pissed about them hassling her. It probably wasn't the same group but it made me vent some of the frustration I was dealing with.

Well, as I 've mentioned, I manage people in a call center. We take phone calls in and make them out, to set up appointments for people to have home improvements done, like a new fence, roof, siding, house painting, etc. About 75% of the people I work are from the inner city, have little more than a high school education (about 10% don't have that), and are expected to be able to click and type in a application (it's odd that some can't do this, but are able to surf the net REALLY well). They have to read what is on the screen, and be nice. Most of them can't read what's on the screen, some of whom I've figured out are illiterate, and some just don't care. I'm also the only one of 9 managers who ever seems to do anything, and conversely am the only one who gets in trouble.

Had a good one Wednesday night. I work at a DirecTV call center doing technical support for customers. This old lady calls in late at night, cussing up a storm. 'DTV sucks @$$, they're ba$tards, etc, etc.' SHe has a problem with no signal on her receiver. After venting for 5-6 minutes, I get enough words in to have her troubleshoot. I asked her to unhook the satellite-in cable and make sure the center wire's not bent.
I get total silence for 10 seconds. 'Ma'am?' 'MOTHER_F****R!' and dial tone. Seems she didn't have that cable connected... rofl.

So I get called down to our HR department the other day to talk about one of the people who reports to me. It seems that he had been sending some letters to the HR main office in Florida. In these letters, he stated that we were refusing to pay him (he did miss 23 hours, but that was due to an issue with payroll while he was out on leave), that we were refusing his benifits, and that the guy who audits calls was out to get him. He rambled on for a while in one note, saying that we were "terrorizing, harrassing, and belittling our employees"(his version didn't have the punctuation) and that he had been talking to people about it. He ended this note with "one way or another this will all come out when this comes to an end." More than a little creepy.
THEN the HR person pulls out THREE MORE notes, these both hand written (the other was an email). One was going on about the pay and benifits. One was saying how we descriminate against him because he's "just some old man" and that "if it wasn't for my friends and family [he]'d be a bum living on the streets." The third one targeted the call evaluator, by name. It said that he was making things up to count off for, that everything was subjective (which a lot of the call scoring IS subjective, but that's the way everyone is scored), and that they should "let him watch some wrestling, put him in a tin box, give him some Church's chicken and Stag beer, and he'd be in hog heaven." (the guy who he's refering to is 6'4" and weighs about 400 lbs, which is down after he had gastric bypass a year ago when he was over 600)
So, we checked into this guy's file. He's had a lot of time missed for medical reasons. When we looked, we found that he had been treated for:
Panic Attacks
Depression
Anxiety
AND one thing had a list of items that he was going to work on. These included:
Going back to AA
Stopping smoking
Getting away from abusing substances
Dealing with Anger Control issues
So, if you hear about a mass shooting in St Louis, it could well be at my work.

Hey man, it doesn't sound like something to joke about. Sure this guy sounds like a putz but he seems to seriously need help. It's a tough situation and I hope you guys are able to find a suitable and successful solution to it. If you've gotta let him go (which sounds likely) then hopefully you guys can help him get the help he needs; AA, Anger Management, counseling, something.
Best of luck to ya.

Yeah, getting him personal help isn't really our job. Now, letting him have time off to get his life straight is OK. We've done that. But it seems like every few months he has some issue and flips out over something. I am thinking they are going to let him go, mostly because his letters contained not-so veiled threats. But I just hope to GAWD it's not around the time I get off.

I've been at my job almost 5 years. I spent more than two of those years as a "peon" answering the phones before getting promoted. So now I've been in "management" for two years, and they have come down the pipe that we all have to put in no less than 4 hours of time on the phones each month, so that "we can better connect and understand what our peons go through."
Well, I was there. I get it. I don't need to be reminded. The biggest bitch in all of this is that I now have this, plus two extra hours of meetings a month. When added to the meetings we already have, I will be losing more than 20 hours a month to stuff that prevents me from doing my "real work." And no one sees this as an issue. So they haven't removed anything, and we have more to do. I hate corperate America.

Wow Oogie that sucks that is a lot of time wasted. Sorry man.
Now on to my job. I am a Home Heath Aid. I go in to peoples homes and watch their elderly. I watch this man and woman I have been in this one home for since April so far it has not been to bad I work 3 shift. the people I watch usually sleep right through the night no problems. this all changed last night.
The man has been getting weaker and weaker lately, to the point where he can barley stand under his own power. Well he had to go to the bathroom around 3am this morning. well he is using me to balance on. All of a sudden half way to the bathroom he gets sick all over me. I got him to the toilet. then I started to clean myself up and the hall to the bathroom. mind you I have no change of clothes. After he is all done I get him back to bed.
This happens again at around 4am then 6am both time through up on me. I got off work at 7am cam right home and showered for and hour . so that was my night at work and it sucked.

Well, at the moment, I'm unemployed. I did work at a restaurant as a cook/dishwasher/server/trainer. It was quite a bit of work, but it's all good. Now, I will start a new job fairly soon though. I'm going to Larned Mental Health Correctional Facility to be a prison guard. All the crazies go to Larned. So my job will consist of crazy inmates throwing all sorts of wonderful things at me, including their own waste. Sounds like a fun job don't it?

I have a meeting tomorrow on a child who is an "alleged" child rapist......with the entire region's upper echelon of management.....seriously, only the commissioner of the entire department wont be there, and I heard she might conference call in.
Now, the child hasn't been to trial on this charge, so he's innocent until proven guily under our legal system. But, given he has the trial pending, our placement unit saw fit to put him in sex offender treatment anyway.....which is like telling someone that they had to go to DUI school without them ever drinking, but you heard that might have been at some point in the last 6 months.
point being, everyone is pissed this kid is somewhere where, technically, he shouldn't be....but could be pending the results of the trial......the catch 22 is no other treatment centers will take the kid because of the pending charge......so, he can't be where he possibly needs to be and he can't be placed where he possibly needs to be.
Gotta love state government red tape!

My job starts in roughly half an hour as of this post.
I make cables for car radios. In a tin building. With no AC.

All I do is stand there and put electrical tape around a cable, maybe shake it up and put some clips on it... or even a little bit of foam -gasp!- 500 or so cables later, I get to go home. And then I get to do it all over again the next day.
