So anyone jumping in on either of these? I haven't played much guitar Hero, but the little I have has me drooling to play more... but it really looks like Rock Band has the better song list. Lots of Who and Bowie and stuff.
So, anyone have any thoughts on these? Pros and cons?
I'm probably going to pull the trigger on buying Guitar Hero III this weekend. Rock Band doesn't come out until 11/20, and the old ADD is kicking in... I just dont think I can wait!

I love Guitar Hero, though I wish I could get the list for the first one on the 360. Rock Band looks like it oughtta be great though. Probably end up owning III and Rock Band to go along with the copy of II I already have.

Does this help, Trebor? The games sound interesting, but I've never picked any of them up. Price point has been a factor on my gaming in recent years.
Of the two, I'd say Rock Band sounds like it would be more fun if you got your friends together, but if that's not something you can do very often, Guitar Hero is probably the way to go.

My brother-in-law has Guitar Hero I and II. They are fun, and can be challenging. But I got tired of them fairly fast. That 80's one looked cool though...

I actually bought Guitar Hero for the PS2 last year after playing it round Leeds Knights house. I have to say it was fun for a while both for myself and Mrs Ridge. But after a few plays of the songs contained on the disc it gets a bit too repetitive. To me it was always a novelty and not something that could sustain my interest for too long. Hence the reason I've never splashed out on the two follow ups. Nor will I probably buy Rock Band. Some people may like them and find them fun to play but I think they're more the game for when others come round.
Which for us, doesn't happen nearly that often.

*shrugs* i have just recently gotten GH II and III, (my plans on getting I for me i believe later on lol)...we both love them, not to mention we played rock band for like 8 hours straight one day(at a mate's house...singing for 8 hours KILLS btw)...
but in the end if youre not a perfectionist then the games will cap out at mildly amusing at best id say...
luckily for me i have like limitless attention span
but those waffles are tasty!!!!
oh sorry what was i saying?
oh right! attention span...
but seriously, though i reccomend everyone plays it at least once, unless youve got a few friends you see regularly that also enjoy the game then id just reccomend playing it at your local wal-mart

(as i still do regualarly when there :-p)

I've come down on the Rock Band side pretty heavily. GHIII was just too damn hard at anything other than easy lvl, and too easy at easy lvl. Plus the songs in RB are better, simply because they aren't covers, they're by the original bands. I'll be looking for the drum kit when it comes out in march.

idk i play on expert on them so i LOVE the difficulty
but yes for non-"musigamers" it could be quite frusterating i suppose

Mel and I have Rockband on PS2, and we've tried and beat GH3 on easy just before xmas. Mel is almost done Guitar solo career on Expert, and I've just been introduced to the frightening world of the orange button. Mel plays the geetar in real life, while I can barely play cowbell. Mel can (with our SOCOM headset) single play In Bloom and Celebrity Skin singing and strumming. I can barely play cowbell in Don't Fear the Reaper.
In summary, the only shot I have at the game is if Mel's playing and I happen to be in her ear at the time. I can't see that stopping us from getting the drums in the future though. And I agree with the ogre, the songs in Rock Band are much better than GH3.

I think even I'd have a dabble at that. Mainly the idea of teaching you to play a real guitar at the same time appeals to me. Which is something that I've been meaning to do for ages. It's just a matter of choosing between gaming time and practice chords time. Where with this you can encorporate both activities into one, hooray!

The Beatles Rock Band is now, officially the king of all music games. I've barely come up for air playing it. I even bought a mike!

I can imagine. They have the game playing in Walmart all day long and the songs all sound great (of course). It seems like it's pretty much the pinnacle of music games.

I was actually quite excited about Beatles Rock Band when I originally read the announcement. But after reading the set list I was a little disappointed. It seemed to me that a good deal of my favourite tracks aren't in there. No Let It Be, Nowhere Man, or Hey Jude anywhere in the tracks I may give it a miss.

I haven't played it (in fact, I haven't played any Rock Band/Guitar Hero type game), but it's been getting a staggering amount of positive press. I've heard more than one source state it could be as important to video games as the Beatles themselves were to music. Now, this is pretty obvious hyperbole; I don't think it'll be anywhere near that big. But it definitely is showing the potential for expanding the potential demographic for video games, in much the same way as happened with Tetris, The Sims, Wii Sports, and the original Guitar Hero.

Ah, silly Ridge. Why give it all now when they can charge you for expansions and microtransactions?

I actually really like that the set list includes a lot of the less known tracks. It's reminded me how great a lot of their songs are that dont get all the airplay.

Plus, it supports up to three singers at once, and gives you points for harmonizing. It's enough to make me wish I liked the Beatles more.

I just recently got into these games. I have GH World Tour, RB 2, and Beatles RB for Wii. I'll echo Gelf in singing BRB's praises. My only compliant, and this goes for RB 2 as well, is that I like GH's difficulty levels better. "Medium" level on GH is about perfect for my comfort level. Medium in RB 2 and BRB is just slightly too easy, and Hard on any of the games requires more concentration and coordination than I'm willing to devote and still enjoy myself, on avaerage. The actual game mechanics is identical in all games, and everything else (graphics, UI, song selection) is better in the RB games. They all succeed in their purpose - playing them makes me feel like a rock star.
I've played through all 45 songs in BRB now, and can't complain about any of the inclusions. I'm really trying to master "Drive My Car" in hard mode, just because the opening guitar riff makes me feel like a total badass when I can nail it. Plus, just hearing all of the songs in their remastered glory is a treat. The intro and outro movies for the game are also spectacular. I'm not sure what the giant Blue Rhino is supposed to be or how it relates to the Beatles other than being trippy, but it looks amazing.

Wasn't John mumbling "giant blue rhino" at the end of Stawberry Fields?
The answer is "no", but it is in this way that myths are born.

So, I got the Beatles Rock Band, and my Xbox gets the red ring of penultimate destruction. At least this happened after I had everyone in my band over to play it. It was fun, even though the night consisted of guitar, drums, and mostly off-key singing from everyone (aside from our female lead vocalist). We were so loud I actually had people knocking on my door to tell us to keep it down.

I finally caved in and bought a version of Rock Band, because I saw the Beatles version on sale. It came with drums, a guitar(which I need to have fixed under warantee), a mic, and the Beatles game; all for about $130. I had the original Rock Band, and tried to play with the controller(but it didn't work) so I got some real controllers. I haven't beaten it yet, but I attribute that to a shoddy guitar and me not being too stellar on the drums. (but mainly the lack of time)
My levels of difficulty so far are:
Guitar -- Expert
Drums -- Medium\Hard
Vocals -- Hard\Expert
I look forward to beating both the games. =)
