Full Version: Christmas Wishes and Brags

Here is a thread to post what you're hoping for this Christmas...and then, later, what you actually got!

I am hoping for a green digital camera. I've been told it's out of the question, but I can still hope for it. Instead, I've asked for several DVDs; the new Futurama movie, The Simpsons Movie, Casino Royale, Rocky Balboa. Should get one or two of those at the very least.

I suspect it will be a very lean year, especially considering how hard it was for me to scrape together enough money to get everyone something.

Oh, and for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of peace and harmony. Yeah.

Steve Martin is awesome. biggrin.gif

I didn't really ask for much this year... had a hard time thinking of stuff. A few DVD sets, the Masterpiece Starscream figure. Not sure what people will actually wind up getting me.
TwinkyMaster
My mom didn't have a clue what to get me this year so she had me make a list just like the olden days. I asked for a bunch of movies mostly. Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and the Spider-Man trilogy because I don't have any of the Spidey movies on DVD. I also asked for one of the Batman: TAS seasons because I still don't have any of 'em and I thought it was about time to get one. The other day a box about the size of a DVD set arrived from Amazon DVDs so I'm thinking the Batman set is a pretty sure thing which I'm wicked excited about. I've gone way to long without owning one of my all-time favorite TV shows.
Revil Fox
I put fifty cents into an arcade game today and won a PSP. So that's sweet.
TwinkyMaster
Merry freakin' Christmas.
Revil Fox
My favorite part is, the game that I played to get it actually costs a dollar to play. Someone must have put Fifty cents in and walked away from it.
Chaomancer Omega
Arcade games where you're at give away PSPs? That's incredible.

Unless by "PSP" you mean something other than "Playstation Portable".
Revil Fox
It's one of those skill/luck games. A little bar goes across the screen, and you have to press a button to stop it, then another one goes across a little faster on the next line up. The object is to stack the bar all the way to the top of the screen, and if you do, you win a prize.
Chaomancer Omega
Ah, I see. I don't think I've seen a game like that.
TwinkyMaster
Oh yeah, we have that game at the arcade up at our closest mall. My brother got about two rows away from the top and then stopped the block just a little too early and it fell to the buttom of the screen. I remember you could win some pretty cool prizes from it. Congrats Revil.
Oogie
I didn't really ask for much of anything this year. I really want to get a laptop, and I made that fairly clear to most folks. I think I'm getting a lot of Best Buy gift cards.

I found out that we're getting a new stove from the in-laws, since the oven part of ours crapped out 2 months ago. Other than that, I'm still waiting to see.
TheRidge
Not sure what I'm after to be honest. I'll be happy with whatever I get, of course more X-Box games wouldn't go amiss. Along with DVD's they're always welcome, we shall have to wait and see. I'd personally like any of the Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, Prison Break or Heroes boxsets.
HollowScream
I got my brother the Heroes boxset. Me, well, so far all I've gotten is some thermal socks, the normal array of gift cards, and a new computer chair. Still have to wait and see what my dad sends me.
KilljoyBob
My wife and I tend to pick out our own presents, that way there's no disappointment. I asked for the Heroes box set, a Preacher TBP and some Transformers toys. My in-laws are buying us carpet for our living room. Not sure what my parents are getting us.

From my mother I got one of these:

and Steve Martin's new book Born Standing Up.

Oogie
Wow, Gelf can plug his GEE-TAR right into his PC and rock the house down. That's pretty nifty.
GelfOgre
It really is. I've recorded 3 new pieces since I opened it yesterday! laugh.gif

For anyone who's interested:

Kind of a texas style blues riff, just trying out some different sounds. Obviously I played all the instruments except the drum loop (you can tell by the sloppiness at the end wink.gif)

Anyway, Dl it if you like. It took a while at work to Dl, not sure why.
K26dp
Can't figure out how to play it. sad.gif

Anyway, Happy Festivus everyone, or whatever your appropriate celebration!

We tried to keep the presents low-key this year. Mrs Martian and I decided to forgo getting each other anything big in order to buy us a new bed. Even so, I walked away this year with the new Twin Peaks DVD set, the Illumaniti: Bavarian Fire Drill expansion, a book called American Creation about the founding fathers, some new house slippers, a $25 B&N gift certificate, and a $50 Amazon.com gift certificate.

Best of all, my parents got me a framed poster of the 1995 World Champion Atlanta Braves, and included with the poster are the Game 6 ticket stubs from our attendence, and the scorecard I used at the game. It's an awesome present for a Braves fan like me. smile.gif

Of course, Martian Lad and Martian Baby II made out like bandits.
TwinkyMaster
Very cool, Gelf.

I, myself am a super happy Bat fan this year. My mom managed to get me all four seasons of Batman: The Animated Series. This is pretty huge for me as it's something I've always wanted since I knew the whole show was out on DVD. I finally feel like I've got my official Batman fan club membership. I can die a happy Twinky now and again and again and again.
Soylent Daveage
Well, I just wanted to say Merry Christmas to everyone here. So I have. I hope you all had a joyous time...
Trebor
I got the usual clothes and a couple puzzles. The cool stuff was the stamp sets for Star Wars and Marvel, to go with the DC one my mom got me last year. The large comic encyclopedias for both Marvel and DC. And a giant freakin' roaster, I can make an 18 lb turkey.
Revil Fox
My amazing girlfriend got me an Xbox 360. Because she's amazing.
Oogie
My haul was fairly mixed this year. Got the usual handful of shirts, so no shock there. Some Best Buy and Red Lobster gift cards. Firechick and I got a couple hundred bucks between us, and we got two bigger gifts from The Diseased One: hockey tickets for the night of Firechick's birthday and tickets to Wicked the Friday before. So we did OK.
Slovman
Did better than I expected.

Got three movies, The Simpsons Movie, Casino Royale, and Superbad, three shirts, and "half" of a digital camera. It wasn't the green one I wanted, and I'm going to have to share it with Dad (which will probably cause untold problems), but it's nice to finally have a digital camera in the house. Always seems like my family is eight steps back of the current trends in technology.

Also got a little money from my oldest brother to put towards buying a new power supply for my computer. It's been trying to die on me for the last few months.
Oogie
I forget to say that I got a really nice rack. The wife did a great job picking it out, then screwed it really good for me the other night. Now we're just looking for a place to hang it. Then I'll put my swords up.

This one should be easier:

So the main part of my xmas haul was a tidy little bundle of cashola from my Mother and (new) Step-Father (guilt is a wonderful thing! laugh.gif)

So now I have to decide:

a. A new Mac. - more than I really have to spend, but my old desktop is about 4 years old now (a G4 dual 500) and really is at the end of it's useful life, although it still works fine. I'd have to go into credit for this though... unsure.gif

b. An iTouch. - They're just so damn cool. (and my wife seems dead set against having anything to do with AT&T, so no iPhone)

c. An iPod Classic 160 - my old 40 gb is also close to the end of it's days, and it'd be nice to be able to watch videos on the screen.

d. Rock Band - I think I'll like it more than Guitar Hero 3 (no battle mode, right?) and it seems like a fun toy.

e. A new Guitar. - buying a new guitar always makes me happy, and there's this Gretsch hollowbody that's been calling to me for a while... and who says 4 guitars is too many?

Help me out, Hallsians. What say you?
Aaronc3477
I did pretty well this year...a couple of gift cards to Gamestop, T.G.I. Friday's and Sports Seasons, a $100 gift card to Lowe's for a new microwave, my g/f and I both got $100 cash from my 'rents as well....I also got a couple of shirts, an Atlanta Falcons beanie that I've been wanting, a new belt with a skull and crossbones belt buckle, an office "decision maker" as a gag gift from my parents and a really nice self cleaning electric razor to keep my bald head nice and shiny from the g/f (she loves the bald head...what can I say?) tongue.gif.

Overall, not a bad haul....I'm pretty happy.

Well, she got me the one that doesn't come with a hard drive, so when I went to go buy a game today, I bought Elder Scrolls IV because I loved Morrowind and I know it's got a crazy amount of playing time in it. I'll be picking up a hard drive in the next week or two (I"m still very broke from buying Christmas gifts) and then I'll be getting the more online friendly games. Halo 3 will likely come first.

But my Gamertag is Revil Fox8 (Revil and Revil Fox were both taken. I blame...A Series of Steam Tubes apparently.

My step-father's got 7 or 8 guitars around the house. So no, 4 guitars is not too many.
GelfOgre
I bought Rock Band and Mass Effect tonight. Played Rock Band for about 2 hours... love it!

Wow. That's pretty awesome, Gelf. I might have to save that to disk. wink.gif

As for me, I did all right this year. Got the first season of the Tick on DVD, got a few t-shirts, new shoes, and my sister and her husband found a nearly mint, in box, Sega Master System with light gun, controllers, 3-D goggles and game. Pretty impressive find, really. (I haven't yet fired it up, but I will be this weekend.)

TheRidge
I think I have a Master System lying around somewhere. That was in pretty nifty condition, plus I had loads of games for it.
Soylent Daveage
Lying around? PFFT! My old 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System is still pluged in to the TV in the family room (right next to the N64) and we still play it all the time! Although I don't have all of the games that I used to have... They got borrowed and managed to dissappear off the face of the earth...
HollowScream
Yeah, I hate when that happens Daveage. Most of my old systems are still packed in boxes from all the moving I've done this year though.
melanierose
Rock Band is really friggin fun.

Bruce and I took the gift certificates we got for Xmas and bought it, and a guitar.

As well as the gift cards, I got a digital camera, a book, some cuptowels and chocolate and shampoo and shit.

And Seinfeld Season 4 and a teddy bear. And some DVDs.

Woot.

So I put up that PSP I won on Ebay, and it ended up selling for $140.51. Best fifty cents I've ever spent...

retro22
