Newsarama has a poll up asking people which comic book event of 2008 they're looking forward to the most. So head on over there and vote if you'd like but what I really wanted to know was how Hallsians feel about the two big comic book events of '08. If you don't know what each event is about, here's a little blurb about each from Wikipedia.
Secret Invasion is an upcoming comic book storyline scheduled for April - November 2008, published by Marvel Comics. It will focus on the reveal of an alien invasion by shapeshifters known as the Skrulls, who have been secretly posing as various characters in the Marvel Universe for many years. Written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Leinil Yu.
Final Crisis is a comic book limited series to be published by DC Comics, in 2008, directly following the conclusion of the 52-issue Countdown to Final Crisis. It is to be written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by J.G. Jones in eight oversized issues. Countdown ends with #1, and the #0 issue is actually going to be called Final Crisis #0. Grant and Geoff Johns will be involved with that issue. Writer Grant Morrison has said that this is the last Crisis and will be "The Lord of the Rings of the DCU."

Of the two, I have to go with Final Crisis. I can't say I'm even all that interested in Secret Invasion. Granted, I am only moderately interested in Final Crisis right now.

I'd lean toward "Neither" if I were still buying comics. As several of us have said elsewhere...the event cycle needs to end.
But I probably would buy Final Crisis, regardless. Secret Invasion just looks too much like a cop-out opportunity for the horrid events and characterizations that have preceded it. (Can we say Iron Man?) I guess if it leads to a normalization of affairs at the House of Ideas, then it would be acceptable, but I don't expect it'll be a good story.

Morrison vs. Bendis is like Ali vs. Shore.
Pauly Shore.

Final Crisis, I've been getting all of Countdown and it's Morrison so I'm on for that, plus the whole it's supposed to be just that, a "final crisis", makes things a bit better. If I hear good things about Secret Invasion, I'll pick it up some time later, but meh for now. Though I do wanna know how the Thing's chin could look Scrully.

I voted neither. I'll buy Final Crisis, but as said earlier, the cycle of events needs to end...

Bit of a no brainer for me. I am so completely uninterested in anything Marvel now that I'd rather not buy or read any comics than Marvel if I had to choose between the two options.
While I am getting burnt out on DC's major events I am hopefull that Final Crisis will 1) put an end to this cycle of DC events (ya probably wishfull thinking but maybe they will do smaller ones), 2) will actually be as good as it potentially can be, and 3) give me a reason for continuing to buy Countdown.
But if Final Crisis stumbles I am going to be so pissed that I might stop collecting (not that i'm buying a lot these days just Booster Gold, JLA, and Countdown). And I suspect it will be the final big event that I buy for a long time unless the next one really grabs me. Since i've never really liked big events in the first place (wasn't a fan of Crisis on the Infinite Earths, haded Millenium, skipped Legends as best as I could and never have bought any of the Marvel events) I am annoyed that I have bought in to all of these DC ones the past 3 or 4 years. And wished that I could stop but so far the previous Crisis's flowed together so much that I felt I had to buy them to stay in the loop. But this is my last, don't care if I go out of the loop after this, i've had enough mega events.
I stopped buying Marvel because Civil War was forced on me (was only buying Fantastic Four and Spider-Man and both were essentially Civil War comics, if I wanted to read that event i'd have bought the event's comics. Didn't appreciate my regular comics being taken over by the event).

Heh, this has really been interesting (and not just because I'm a huge DC fan). Thanks for everyone who's answered so far and I encourage anyone else who's interested to also vote.
One bit of news that I heard (read) somewhere was that Final Crisis will be almost entirely self-contained. There won't be any crossovers with regular titles nor will there be many (if any) tie-in miniseries running along with Final Crisis. Sounds like after Countdown #1, there will be Final Crisis #0 (which will be cowritten by Morrison and Geoff Johns) and then the monthly Final Crisis #1-7 and that'll be all you need to follow the whole story. I'm glad that it sounds like they're really making this one title and one title only. Should be pretty easy for even those of us on a tight budget to pick up and follow. Looking forward to it and hopefully the return of a certain Flash. (No, the other one).

...Flash Gordon?
I vote neither, because I don't buy comics anymore. Not to get all Comic Collector Anonymous, but it's been 12 years since I collected comics, and the big crossovers back then were Marvel drawing together and finishing up all of its 2099 books, which annoyed me because I was quite enjoying Doom 2099 (until the last two issues when they brought in a new artist who was AWFUL!), and Darkstorm Rising which covered just about every title in the Wildstorm universe (back when it was at Image comics) as well as a few titles from another company.
Of course the crossovers aren't the reason I stopped collecting... I moved in with some friends and didn't have access to my comic book store anymore, and there wasn't another in the area, so I just quit cold turkey... Luckily I had roleplaying to take my mind off the withdrawal symptoms, so the de-tox wasn't too bad...

Actually from the sounds of it there will be a couple of spin offs during the mini break that the series will have in it's more or less middle. But ya it sounds like it will be an event story but not a cross-title, collect everything to get the whole story mega-event type of deal. Which I welcome big time... I'm tired of cross-title events (not that I ever liked those in the first place).

I haven't heard anything to suggest either part of that... got any sources on this?

Yup, from a Newsarama interview with Dan Didio that I posted
here, Didio's quoted as saying:
QUOTE(Dan Didio)
DD: No - Final Crisis is seven issues over eight months. It has a natural break built in between two of the issues. During that natural break, there will be a series of specials dealing with Final Crisis and the events of that natural break in the story.
There will also be two other supporting series for Final Crisis, one of them is a five part story, one of them is a six part story. That is the full extent of Final Crisis. So we will not see Final Crisis crossing over in any appreciable manner with the rest of the line. All of the other monthly books will continue on the stories they’re telling, with their established creative teams for those series.
It was actually me over simplifying it in my post earlier but it still sounds like Final Crisis (even with the two specials) will be more contained than most other special events. As he says, in a different part of the interview, they're using the Sinestro Corps story as a large model for their future specials.

I'm seriously looking forward to Secret Invasion. At first I was a worried about Bendis helming it but so far he's doing a bang-up job. Plus, the Skrull Stories are some of my favorite that Marvel has to offer. I'll no doubt buy Final Crisis if not for the J.G. Jones artwork. The tie-ins sound pretty cool as well.
