Originally hosted by Chaomancer Omega in the spring of 2007, the Battle of the Comic Strips featured both classic newspaper comics and modern webcomics. It promised to be one of the most popular battles ever held at the Halls, as many of the webcomic creators and their fans were invited to participate. But the actions of a few (dozen) individuals called into question the "fairness" of the contest, and Chaomancer soon decided it would be best to shut the whole thing down and start again fresh at an later date.

The nomination process was started anew in October of 2007, and the Battle itself launched once again in December. In order to keep it from going awry the way the previous incarnation had, CO restricted nomination privileges to Hallsians, making it the only Battle to date to have rank restrictions while still having a publicly-announced nomination period; this policy is not planned on being continued with further battles. Webcomic creators and their fans were not invited, as it was felt that this had led to the bulk of the problem in the first attempt.

The resulting Battle was, naturally, not as big or as heavily-discussed as the original attempt, but the intention to keep the Battle fair and an accurate reflection of Hallsian views proved successful. 64 comic strips from both print and the web were nominated, and eventually Calvin and Hobbes took first place, with Peanuts in second; The Far Side and Looking For Group were semi-finalists.
