While there was a Silver Age version of the character with the same name, in 2006 DC Comics recreated Batwoman Kathy Kane as a red-headed lesbian hitting the streets of Gotham City while Batman was away during the events of 52. Little has been revealed about her so far, but she has a history with Renee Montoya, and it has been speculated she will have her own solo series in 2007.

Batwoman was the 2006 winner of the McCrea Award for Best New Character.
