Buddy Holly and the Crickets were an early rock and roll band whose works have influenced many later rockers, and been covered several times. Buddy Holly was noted for his trademark horn-rimmed glasses, and his singing voice, which sounded like it was "hiccupping" through many songs. Buddy Holly tragically died in a plane crash, which would inspire the song American Pie. Buddy Holly and the Crickets had three songs in the Battle of the Oldies; That'll Be the Day took second place.
