DC Universe

The collective term for all worlds and characters in the main line of DC Comics, the DC Universe has at times included multiple planes of reality with alternate versions of Earth, designated Earth-1, Earth-2, and so on. These were all consolidated into a single universe in 1985 in Crisis on Infinite Earths and again in Infinite Crisis... or so it seemed. 52 revealed that in fact, 52 universes had been created, and at the end of 52, each was different from each other. The universes are referred to by their Earths.

Additionally, each "Earth" may have its own alternate dimensions, pocket dimensions, parasite universes, alternate timelines, etc. When particularly notable, these will be noted below as well.

Note: It is known from Countdown: Arena that one of the 52 worlds corresponds to JLA: The Nail, but it is not known which one.

List of the 52 Earths (and notable other dimensions)

Designation Description
New Earth The main Earth of the DCU. Most stories, and all current ongoing titles take place on New Earth, which was the Earth created after Crisis on Infinite Earths and the main one recreated after Infinite Crisis. It contains elements of all pre-Crisis Earths, though it most closely resembles the pre-Crisis Earth-1 with some Earth-2 elements. Most characters who existed on a different Earth pre-Crisis now exist both on New Earth and in a parallel form on one or more of the other Earths.
Earth-1 Unknown. Before Crisis on Infinite Earths, Earth-1 was the main DC Earth during the Silver Age. According to Rip Hunter, this is not the same as New Earth.
Earth-2 Roughly equivalent to the pre-Crisis Earth-2, the Golden Age DC Universe. At present, the Kryptonians are missing; Superman died in Infinite Crisis and Power Girl is on New Earth. Other characters appear to be present in their traditional Earth-2 forms, though some have slightly updated costumes. JSA and Infinity Inc. are both operating on this Earth, in parallel to their New Earth counterparts. Jade is still alive on Earth-2.
Earth-3 Crime Society Earth. An updated version of the pre-Crisis Earth-3, possibly with elements of the Qwardian universe Earth, as well as new characters. Villainous versions of the Justice League reside here, along with the occasional heroic version of a New Earth villain, such as the Jokester.
Earth-4 Charlton Comics Earth, as it was designated in Crisis on Infinite Earths, just before it was destroyed. As seen in 52, it appears to be set at an earlier point in the timeline than New Earth. Dan Garrett, the original Blue Beetle is still active, as is The Question, and Captain Atom is wearing his original uniform. Presumably Ted Kord is alive but has not yet taken up the mantle of the Blue Beetle.
Earth-5 Equivalent to the pre-Crisis Earth-S, also known as "Fawcett Earth", where Captain Marvel and the Fawcett Comics characters lived. Note that Mary Marvel is in her original costume, Billy is still Captain Marvel, Freddy is Captain Marvel Jr., Uncle Dudley exists, and Tawky Tawny is an anthropomorphic tiger. Note also that on New Earth the present-continuity versions still exist. This is the classic Marvel family on Earth-5. However, unlike the pre-Crisis Earth-S, Fawcett-esque analogues of DC heroes such as Green Lantern also exist.
Earth-6 Unknown. Home to an alternate version of Ray Palmer who developed light powers and became The Ray, according to Countdown: Arena.
Earth-7 Unknown. Home to an alternate version of Stargirl who became Starwoman, according to Countdown: Arena.
Earth-8 Home of Lord Havok and the Extremists, called "Angor" by its inhabitants. The Monitor known as "Solomon" is from this universe.
Earth-9 Tangent Comics Earth. Superheroes with the same names, but radically different natures and powers from the main DCU.
Earth-10 At least somewhat equivalent to the pre-Crisis Earth-X, where Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters fought against the Nazis who had won World War II. Presumably Uncle Sam and crew are here (in addition to their New Earth versions), and will have their hands full with Nazi versions of the Justice League members.
Earth-11 World of gender-reversed superheroes; i.e., Superwoman, Batwoman, and Wonder Man.
Earth-12 Earth of Batman Beyond, set further in the timeline than New Earth. In Countdown: Arena it was shown that a descendant of Hal Jordan is one of seven Green Lanterns patrolling the universe.
Earth-13 According to Keith Champagne, this world is Vertigo-esque. In Countdown: Arena, it was shown that the Nightshade of this Earth is known as "Eve of Shadows".
Earth-14 Unknown.
Earth-15 As shown in Countdown #30, Jason Todd is Batman, Donna Troy is Wonder Woman, Kyle Rayner is Green Lantern, and Ray Palmer's daughter Jessica is the Atom. Additionally, an apparently heroic Zod is Superman (this may be Lor-Zod, alias Christopher Kent).
Earth-16 A world where heroes have evolved to become nearly perfect beings; Christopher Kent, Lor-Zod, is Superman and shows up in Countdown: Arena.
Earth-17 The Earth of the Silver Age Gardner Grayle and the Atomic Knights. Post-Apocalyptic Earth. Pre-Crisis, this was a possible hallucination of Grayle; its reality was uncertain. Also home to Kamandi. Many of the Earth's inhabitants, including its Starman, are apes.
Earth-18 Earth of Justice Riders, where the Justice League are lawmen protecting the Old West.
Earth-19 Earth of Gotham by Gaslight, set in the 1880s, where Batman fought Jack the Ripper.
Earth-20 Unknown.
Earth-21 Earth of DC: The New Frontier, or very similar to it. Set in a point in time in which the Cold War has just ended.
Earth-22 The Earth of Kingdom Come.
Earth-23 Unknown.
Earth-24 Unknown.
Earth-25 Unknown.
Earth-26 Home to Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew, animal analogues of the Justice League. Pre-Crisis, this was Earth-C, a pocket universe within Earth-1. After Captain Carrot and the Final Ark, it has been rendered uninhabitable and many of its residents are stranded on New Earth as non-talking animals.
Earth-27 Unknown.
Earth-28 Unknown.
Earth-29 Unknown.
Earth-30 The Earth seen in Superman: Red Son, also known as "Commie Pinko Superman", where Superman's spacecraft crashed in the Soviet Union instead of Kansas.
Earth-31 World of The Dark Knight Returns and its spin-offs.
Earth-32 Earth of Batman: In Darkest Knight, in which Bruce Wayne received a Green Lantern Power Ring.
Earth-33 An Earth where heroes and villains are all magician-analogues of the Justice League and other DCU characters, as seen in the graphic novel "Conjurors".
Earth-34 World of Wonder Woman: Amazonia, where Wonder Woman frees Britain from oppression under King Jack.
Earth-35 Unknown.
Earth-36 Unknown.
Earth-37 Unknown. Countdown: Arena showed the character "Quantum-Storm", a merging of the Ronnie Raymond Firestorm and Captain Atom.
Earth-38 Unknown. Countdown: Arena showed a Captain Atom who was commander of the Atomic Knights. (Possibly an alternate take on the outcome of The Battle For Bludhaven?)
Earth-39 Unknown. Coundown: Arena showed a teenaged Dan Garrett who bonded with the Blue Beetle scarab the same way Jaime Reyes did on New Earth.
Earth-40 Earth of JSA: The Liberty Files, set in World War II.
Earth-41 Unknown.
Earth-42 Unknown.
Earth-43 From the Batman and Dracula books, a world engulfed by vampires once led by Dracula, where Batman is himself now a vampire. A Monitor who himself resembles a vampire refers to his world as a world of vampires and the supernatural.
Earth-44 Unknown.
Earth-45 Unknown.
Earth-46 Unknown.
Earth-47 Unknown.
Earth-48 Home world of the Forerunners, a race bred by the Monitors to do their fighting, and then wiped out except for one last one.
Earth-49 Unknown.
Earth-50 The Wildstorm universe, now officially part of the DC Multiverse.
Earth-51 Ray Palmer's "perfect world", the superheroes achieved victory over the supervillains, without sacrificing their own morality. Most of the superheroes, other than Batman, have retired and taken on civilian occupations.
Qward The anti-matter universe. While many positive-matter universes exist, there is still only one anti-matter universe. Home to the Anti-Monitor and the Sinestro Corps.
Apokolips Sort of a parasite universe to New Earth, there is only one Apokolips in all the multiverse. Darkseid is its ruler, and he has recently become aware of the 52 worlds...
