Defenders

The Defenders are a super-team in Marvel comics, brought together by Dr. Strange and consisting of whatever other characters are needed at the time. They are a very loosely-associated group, and often have a third-tier status compared to the X-Men and the Avengers.

In 2005, the core group of Dr. Strange, Silver Surfer, Hulk, and Namor were the subject of a 4-issue miniseries by Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis, and Kevin Maguire.
