G.L.A.

Written by Dan Slott and illustrated by Paul Pelletier, this miniseries follows the trials and travails of the Great Lakes Avengers, a small group of also-rans who never quite managed to accomplish much, but in this instance had to save the world from the villain Maelstrom. The dark comedy (at least one character died in each of the four issues) won the 2005 McCrea Award for Best Miniseries. In addition, two of its characters also won McCreas: Grasshopper for Best Death, and Monkey Joe for Best Secondary Character.
