Hot Rod was a young punk Autobot introduced in Transformers: The Movie. After indirectly getting Optimus Prime killed, Hot Rod, after a series of events, became the new Prime, in the form of Rodimus Prime. His popularity was never as great as Optimus's, however, and eventually Optimus was restored to life and he became Hot Rod once again.
