The first superhero team in comics, the JSA originally consisted of various DC Comics characters who would team up on combined adventures. In its current incarnation, the JSA has become the "elder statesman" group of superheroes, with the older superheroes as members teaching and training younger heroes who are following the legacies of heroes who have passed on or retired. Perpetual members include the golden age Green Lantern Alan Scott, the Flash Jay Garrick, Hawkman, and Wildcat.
