After Hal Jordan went mad and destroyed the Green Lantern Central Power Battery, Ganthet, the last of the Guardians of the Universe, went to Earth to give the last remaining power ring away to one who would prove worthy. He found Kyle Rayner, an artist who proceeded to achieve great heights of heroism despite facing many tragedies and setbacks along the way. Eventually, Kyle would be responsible for aiding Hal Jordan back to sanity, and restoring the Green Lantern Corps.
During the Rann-Thanagar War, Kyle received the energy of his former girlfriend, Jade, which transformed him into a being of great power, known as "Ion" (a transformation which had occurred once before after receiving a vast amount of power from Parallax, the insane Hal Jordan).
For several years, Slovman wore a costume similiar to Kyle's. But after the events of The Storm, Slovman lost his power ring and eventually received a new costume that bears little resemblance to either Kyle's or any other Green Lantern's.
In 2006, a Heroclix figure was released of Kyle in his most recent pre-Ion Green Lantern costume. This figure won the McCrea Award for Best Heroclix.
In the second season of the FUSUD, Kyle was drafted by the Midnight Falls Nightmare. It should be noted that this is the pre-Infinite Crisis version of Kyle Rayner.
