Marvin Gaye was an acclaimed R&B singer, who had the definitive cover of I Heard It Through the Grapevine, a version which won third place in the Battle of the Cover Songs and was also a nominee in the Battle of the Blues and R&B Songs. His song Let's Get It On was also a nominee in that battle. Neither song won out to the top four.
