New Coke was an attempt by the Coca-Cola company in the mid-80s to introduce a new taste for their flagship product, one that was sweeter and more like Pepsi, which a recent taste-test had indicated was more popular. The attempt backfired spectacularly, prompting Coke to return to its original flavor -- a return which vaulted Coca-Cola's numbers far above its previous sales, leading some to speculate that the whole thing may have been planned from the beginning.

New Coke was the runner-up in the Battle of the Commercial Failures.
