The Question was created by Charlton Comics, which was later bought out by DC Comics. The Question is a detective who wears a mask that covers his entire face. His full name is Charles Victor Szasz, though he usually goes by "Vic Sage". Considered one of the world's greatest detectives, he is also a master martial artist, having fought Lady Shiva to a standstill.

In 52, he hired Renee Montoya to perform surveillance for him, but it seemed he had ulterior motives at the same time, which he never made clear to her. Unusually, he introduced himself by his real first name, Charlie. Tracking Intergang across the world, he and Montoya stopped multiple plots before he took Montoya to train in martial arts under the tutelage of Richard Dragon. While there, he revealed to Renee that he had terminal lung cancer. The Question died a few weeks into 2007.

The Question's actions and storyline in 52 earned him the 2006 McCrea Award for Best Superhero.
