Rise of the Kittens

This is a fairly new running gag started by Slovman wherein a sequel to a movie, video game, or other form of entertainment is given the subtitle Rise of the Kittens. Originally, it was intended specifically for long-running movie and game franchises, like Grand Theft Auto IX: Rise of the Kittens or Star Wars Episode VII: Rise of the Kittens. Like many other Halls gags, it has spread to TV shows and, of course, comics.

Naturally, the less appropriate a movie is to have militant kittens appear in, the better. Citizen Kane II: Rise of the Kittens and Philadelphia II: Rise of the Kittens would be examples of this.

The most prominent use of the joke so far was at the 2006 McCrea Awards where a Manos: The Hands of Fate 2: Rise of the Kittens poster was clearly visible outside of McCrea Theatre.
