A master of the otherworldly Shadowlands, the DC Comics character the Shade is also an immortal who has lived since Victorian times. He is often viewed as a villain, but it is perhaps more accurate to say that he lies between the lines of villainy and heroism, judging for himself what the proper course of action will be. He does not kill carelessly, but will kill without mercy when he deems it appropriate -- and places a higher value on art than on human life. Nevertheless, to be a friend of the Shade is to have a friend who will defend you to a degree most heroes won't, and his adoption of Opal City has made it a dangerous place for would-be criminals.
The Shade won the Battle of the C-Listers, and has fought for the Lost Grove Spiders in the FUSUD.
