Written by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, Watchmen features slightly altered analogues of the Charlton Comics heroes, redesigned and renamed, and set in a world where superheroics have been outlawed. The bleak tale became a classic in comicdom, and is one of the most respected books in the field. So it was with little surprise that it was a strong contender in the Battle of the Comic Book Storylines, going on to take first place.
